As an FBI polygraph examiner who conducted extensive FBI polygraph examinations, Jason White was regularly contacted by FBI Case Agents or local law enforcement to administer polygraph examinations for suspects, persons of interest, or witnesses in their cases. When a Case Agent or investigator requests polygraph services, there is some level of uncertainty regarding the person’s involvement in the crime. The polygraph examination helps investigators decide whether to halt further investigation of this person, thereby allowing them to focus resources elsewhere, to dismiss charges against a person, or to reexamine evidence and witness testimony. Jason's polygraph process, which combines his skills as a seasoned FBI interviewer/instructor and polygraph examiner, creates an environment in which each examinee can receive a fair and credible polygraph examination.

Polygraph screening of law enforcement candidates will ensure honesty on applications, avoid hiring candidates with serious criminal history, or hiring candidates with excessive or recent illegal drug use. Without polygraph screening, a law enforcement agency is exposing itself to unsuitable law enforcement officers, civil liabilities, and public ridicule.
The Employment Polygraph Protection Act (Fact Sheet #36: Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988 | U.S. Department of Labor (dol.gov)). The Act generally prevents employers engaged in interstate commerce from using polygraph examinations either for pre-employment screening or during the course of employment, with certain exemptions.
For private sector firms, the Act allows for limited exemptions in which polygraph tests (but no other lie detector tests) may be administered, subject to certain restrictions:
